The "there are a million variations and no right way" thing is part of what I love SO HARD about this fandom! ^___^
Maybe it's a status/bragging thing with Prime and Megatron? Sort of, the warlord showing off what a damned stud they are, and how bad assed they are that they don't NEED to armor every square inch? (and everybody else sort of winces and goes yeah, that's nice, but I like not having to go to the medics and asking them to reattach those bits...)

But yeah, there's some flexible pipes plugged in with nice grab-able loops under his ribcage, and two wires - one of which totally looks like it's a fluid circulator - which is just hanging there flopping about across his chest. Like, he spent all of his armor points on his legs and arms and totally neglected his chest. =P
